DES MOINES, IA–Last year, DC went into the final Eastern regional tournament as the bottom seed, but found themselves fighting for fifth on the final day. That situation was flipped this time; they came in seeded #4, but found themselves up first on the final day, fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. Thankfully for them they did; they finished 345-135 winners over Tallahassee’s Capital Punishment and took ninth place.

While DC raced into a 10-0 lead in jam two, they filled their box too. Sox Populi took the lead on the powerjam before Frightmare restored the lead on a powerjam of her own when Titanium Whip backblocked her way to the box and the penalty situation flipped.

A 4-1 pack let Frightmare put up 35 in that two-minute jam and DC led 46-22. DC dominated lead calls as all their jammers cashed in while their packs seemingly effortlessly coalesced around Tallahassee jammers. One two-minute jam aside, DC held Tallahassee scoreless for the rest of the first quarter–with 15 gone, DC led 111-30 unassisted by power jams.

Then the jammer penalties came for both teams. The DC lead passed 100 only to be cut to 90 by a 25-0 OMG Bekhi power jam over a DC micropack. She called that jam without lead status, and Ms Judgement raced to the middle from the DC bench to see Bekhi was boxed in turn. She came out, took the lead back down to 90, and was boxed again. Sharp Shredder came out of the box at the start of the following jam only to be boxed, again releasing Bekhi. Bekhi finally got rid of the star as that jam expired with Shredder standing, and DC leading 163-65.

That crazy passage introduced an element of chaos to proceedings that benefited Tallahassee; DC’s discipline evaporated as penalties started to accrue. The lead hovered around 100 as both teams got points on the board, and DC took a comfortable 175-76 lead to the locker room.

DC’s order was restored when they came out for the second half. It was 194-78 when Sox Populi picked up an illegal procedure penalty with the star for contact after the whistles. Frightmare put up 20, but Gore couldn’t add to it before being boxed on a careless cut … but Sox swiftly followed on a cut of her own.

Several more Tallahassee jammer penalties let DC push past the total they achieved against Tallahassee in June with almost 20 minutes to go. Wargasm just had Dual Hitizen to beat as she took Tallahassee past their total in that game with Jersey Jill watching from the box with the star. When that two-minuter was done, DC’s lead stood at 282-120.

DC’s lead had just passed 200 when 7-year veteran Trailer Thrash fouled out, ending her last game with Capital Punishment a few minutes early. But the final minutes passed without further incident, and DC took 9th place 345-135 winners.
