WFTDA’s six playoff tournaments will be spread across seven weekends in August, September and October 2014–and Championships will be hosted in Nashville, TN on the weekend of October 31 – November 2.
The two Division 2 tournaments are to be held first, as before, on August 15-17 and 22-24 in Duluth, MN and Kitchener, Ontario. They will be hosted by the Harbor City Roller Dames and Tri-City Roller Girls respectively. This is potentially bad news for any skaters who have strayed the wrong side of the law–any with DUI convictions or similar are likely to be denied entry to Canada and so would have trouble attending playoff #2.
Two weeks later, the first Division 1 Playoff will be held from September 5-7 in Sacramento, CA, and will be hosted by the Sacred City Derby Girls. A week later, No Coast Derby Girls will welcome teams to Lincoln, NE from September 12-14 before Demolition City Roller Derby host the third playoff from September 19-21 in Evansville, IN.
UPDATE: The WFTDA 2014 Playoffs schedule was amended after the publication of this article when it emerged Lincoln’s Pershing Center was closing. That playoff will instead happen September 26-28 in Salt Lake City.
After a weekend’s respite, Chemical Valley Rollergirls will be hosting the final playoff in Charleston, WV, from October 3-5.
Both Sacred City and No Coast have experience hosting playoffs: Lincoln’s Pershing Center hosted 2012’s South Central Regional tournament the Landlocked Lace-up, while Sacred hosted 2010’s Rollin’ On the River Western regional at the Memorial Auditorium.
A little over three weeks later, teams will start to gather in Nashville, TN: Nashville Rollergirls are hosting Championships from October 31-November 2.
