Rideau Valley Sinks Berlin, 243-240

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–The final of the second Division 2 tournament was contested by Bear City’s #9 seeded Berlin Bombshells and Rideau Valley’s #3 seeded Vixens–the representative teams from Flat Track Stat’s #5 leagues in Europe and Canada respectively. Form suggested that Rideau should take the win after two very strong wins in the run-up to this, but Berlin were having none of it. They took the lead inside the first quarter and held it into the final ten minutes, but could not quite hang on. It went down to the final seconds of the final jam–but Rideau Valley took the game, and the tournament, 243-240.

Queen City Claims DC, 226-144

Outfit Remodels Demolition, 189-150

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–Looking to take the title of 7th place overall, Demolition City (who came into the tournament an 8 seed) took on The Chicago Outfit (originally seeded 5th). Each team clearly had their sights set on victory for this game, but after an intense 60 minute fight, Demolition City was unable to match The Outfit’s smart defense and determined jammers. The Chicago Outfit took 7th place with a score of 189 to 150, though the score didn’t necessarily reflect how closely matched these teams were in terms of skill and intensity.

Boulder County Tumbles Grand Raggidy, 244-172

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–Playing for 9th and 10th place, 6 seed Boulder County opened the final day of D2 playoffs against 10 seed Grand Raggidy. Grand Raggidy put up a solid fight against Boulder, nearly overtaking them in the second half, but intense penalty trouble–as has been the case throughout the weekend–proved Grand Raggidy’s undoing. Boulder took the win 244 to 172 and secured 9th place overall in the tournament.

MADISON, WI–In the nine times that Windy and Minnesota have matched up, WCR has always won, except in 2012 when the game ended in an impossible tie. On Saturday morning they met up on neutral ground in Madison, at the Fast Forward Skate Center for a sweaty rematch. Each team held the lead for awhile, while shutting out the other, and tied it up four times. Going into the last jam, they took the track tied up at 120, and Windy’s strong defense carried on their streak over Minnesota, 129-123.
