ASHEVILLE, NC — The championship game of Asheville’s WFTDA playoff tournament came down to the top two seeds in defending WFTDA champion Gotham facing off against Rocky Mountain for a bye in the 2013 championship tournament. Though RMRG held a tiny lead about 14 minutes into the game and was still in it at halftime, Gotham’s methodical defense and unflappable jammers relentlessly ground Rocky Mountain down in the second; Gotham claimed their 41st straight WFTDA win, 216-99.

ASHEVILLE, NC–While the most recent game between Windy City and Minnesota was the biggest WCR win for some time, these two teams’ storied history meant there was a buzz in the arena as the crowd awaited the start. That buzz was rewarded with a scintillating back-and-forth game that saw Windy come back inside the final ten minutes and claim the ninth ticket to Milwaukee in November, 160-154.

ASHEVILLE, NC–A tight opening 20 minutes looked to be giving way to another Asheville blow-out as Steel slipped into a 122-67 half-time deficit. But the Steel Hurtin’ dragged it back at the death to break the WFTDA playoff comeback record they set against Carolina in 2010, and secure fifth place with a 202-185 win.

ASHEVILLE, NC — In a rematch of the tournament’s opening game, 9th-seeded Oklahoma Victory Dolls took their second win in three days over 8th-seeded Nashville. OKVD had a bit more trouble with NRG than they had in Friday’s 224-120 win and committed 10 jammer penalties to 7 for Nashville, but closed the game on a 65-0 run to win by a convincing final of 200-131.

ASHEVILLE, NC–The ninth place game opened up the final day in Asheville, and featured two teams with vastly differing experience levels. The 6-seeded Mad Rollin’ Dolls have been competing in top-level tournaments for as long as those tournaments have existed, while this was 10-seeded Columbia’s first-ever appearance at the top level. Experience won the day–Madison took a comfortable powerjam fuelled win 265-125 ninth place with it.

ASHEVILLE, NC — Saturday’s final consolation-round match found 7 seed Houston and 8 seed Nashville battling for the right to face Steel City in Sunday’s 5th place game. The game seemed like it might be a close one through much of the first half, but Houston completely dominated the second half 122-17 to take a 221-63 win.
