FORT WAYNE, IN — The final game of Saturday playoff action in Fort Wayne found 7th seed Wasatch going up against 3rd seed Arch Rival in a game to determine who’d advance to the 5th place game against Rose City on Sunday. While Wasatch trailed for all but a few seconds of the bout, they seemed to be one or two big jams away from the lead for nearly the whole game. Arch Rival’s hard-nosed defense — and some hard-to-handle jamming from Brickyard — refused to ever let those one or two jams happen, though, and Arch Rival finally pulled away for good in the last 7 minutes to win solidly, 235-154.

FORT WAYNE, IN–Rose City and Cincinnati came into the 6p.m. game to fight for a place in the fifth place game. Rose duly delivered; a 109-point opening salvo killed Cinci off before they ever got going, and 68 Scald Eagle points in the final two minutes just served to add insult to injury. Scald ended up with 204 of Rose’s points in a 414-116 victory that saw the Wheels of Justice lose two players to injury.

D1FW Semi: (6) Ohio Boxes (2) Montreal, 212-149

FORT WAYNE, IN — In the second semifinal of the Fort Wayne Division 1 Playoffs, 6th seeded Ohio scored their second upset of the weekend by staying clean and smart against 2nd-seeded Montreal, who occasionally seemed to be firing a machine gun at their own feet. Montreal committed 12 jammer penalties, dug themselves a 78-point first-half hole and trailed by 62 at the half. Though the second half was nearly perfectly even at 74-73 Ohio, the underdog could afford to play a conservative endgame and rode a fine performance to a 212-149 win, a trip to the tournament final against top seed Denver, and a guaranteed berth in November’s WFTDA Championships.

FORT WAYNE, IN–The top-seeded WFTDA #2 Denver Roller Dolls faced the fourth-seeded WFTDA #16 London Rollergirls at 2pm on Saturday, with both teams looking to book a trip to Milwaukee by becoming the first team to secure a spot in a Division 1 playoff final. Denver raced into an early lead and while they surrendered it in the first half and picked up two jammer penalties in the final two minutes, they held on to take the win 234-210.

D1FW: (3) Arch Rival Overpowers (9) Bleeding Heartland, 347-121

FORT WAYNE, IN — In Saturday’s second consolation game, 3 seed Arch Rival hit 9 seed Bleeding Heartland with a 347-121 blowout that seemed a little more closely matched than the score implied. The story of the game was repeated huge power jams for Arch Rival completely unbalancing a contest that was nearly even when both teams had jammers on the track. Arch Rival scored well over 200 points during Bleeding Heartland’s 8 jammer penalties, accounting for almost the entirety of their 226-point margin of victory.

D1FW: (5) Rose Levels (10) Grand Raggidy, 429-48

FORT WAYNE, IN–At 10am on Saturday morning, Rose City took to the track against Grand Raggidy after both teams lost their Friday fixtures. While Rose lost by 3 points to London following a mighty second-half revival, Grand Raggidy had been destroyed by an on-form Wasatch team. A handful of first-half jammer penalties aside The Wheels of Justice dominated the opening period as they outscored the Grand Rapids team 10:1; they dominated the second period too, but an odd final jam saw Rose run up the margin but let their game rating slip as both jammers scored as the clock ran down. Rose finished comfortable 429-48 winners to progress; Grand Raggidy will play to avoid a last-place finish tomorrow morning.
