D2KW: Rideau Valley Washes Over Gold Coast, 224-139

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–In the semi-finals of the Kitchener-Waterloo games, The 3 seed Rideau Valley Roller Girls Vixens took on the 7 seed Gold Coast Derby Grrls. Both teams had strong games to that point in the tournament, and this game looked as though it was going to be a very close match up.

D2KW: Berlin Mauls Killamazoo, 232-185

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–While Berlin had not outperformed pre-tournament expectations as much as Gold Coast this weekend, they were still proving themselves to be formidable opponents. This was no exception against Killamazoo; while they almost let a large first-half lead slip away as a tight first period was followed by a much looser second that gave Berlin fans their usual palpitations, the final few jams were carried out nervelessly for the Germans’ most comfortable win of the weekend so far, 232-185.

D2KW: DC Cleans Up Outfit, 186-169

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–Traded penalties and a struggle to maintain cohesion for any length of time defined the D2 consolation-bracket match-up between the DC Rollergirls and The Chicago Outfit. DC held it together better through a messy encounter and emerged 186-169 winners, to fight for fifth and claim an improvement of at least three spots over their 2013 playoff placement.

D2KW: Demolition City Rolls Over Boulder, 194-183

KITCHENER, WATERLOO, ON–In one of the closest matches we’ve seen all weekend, 8 seed Demolition City and 6 seed Boulder County competed to move forward within the consolation bracket. Demolition City lost to Bear City in the first Kitchener-Waterloo game yesterday and Boulder County lost to Rideau Valley last night. Lead changes were the theme of the game, and it seemed that either team could have easily taken the win throughout the game. Ultimately, Demolition City was able to secure a lead in the last 3 jams, winning 194 to 183.

D2KW: Outfit Calms Grand Raggidy, 202-153

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–The first game in the second day at Kitchener-Waterloo brought together two Midwest teams, the 5 seed Chicago Outfit and 10 seed Grand Raggidy. Grand Raggidy were favoured to win as the bout started (despite being 10 seeds) thanks to putting up a 331-105 win over The Outfit back in March.

D2KW: Gold Coast Overthrows Queen City, 214-167

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–While these two teams hadn’t met previously, Queen City skated into this game the clear favorites. And while Gold Coast had made short work of Grand Raggidy only hours prior, not entering this game fresh looked likely to do the team no favors. What happened instead was the day’s second huge seeding upset with Gold Coast taking the win, 214-167, and ensuring that for the first time in WFTDA tournament history both top seeds had been consigned to the consolation bracket.
