Rideau Valley Sinks Berlin, 243-240

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–The final of the second Division 2 tournament was contested by Bear City’s #9 seeded Berlin Bombshells and Rideau Valley’s #3 seeded Vixens–the representative teams from Flat Track Stat’s #5 leagues in Europe and Canada respectively. Form suggested that Rideau should take the win after two very strong wins in the run-up to this, but Berlin were having none of it. They took the lead inside the first quarter and held it into the final ten minutes, but could not quite hang on. It went down to the final seconds of the final jam–but Rideau Valley took the game, and the tournament, 243-240.

D2KW: Berlin Mauls Killamazoo, 232-185

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–While Berlin had not outperformed pre-tournament expectations as much as Gold Coast this weekend, they were still proving themselves to be formidable opponents. This was no exception against Killamazoo; while they almost let a large first-half lead slip away as a tight first period was followed by a much looser second that gave Berlin fans their usual palpitations, the final few jams were carried out nervelessly for the Germans’ most comfortable win of the weekend so far, 232-185.

D2KW: Berlin Shuts Down DC, 166-156

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–The top-seeded DC Rollergirls faced Bear City’s 9-seeded Berlin Bombshells in the fourth game of the Kitchener-Waterloo games, and what a game it was. These teams have faced each other twice in the past two years, with Bear City taking the win in 2012–shortly before DC went to the final Eastern Regional tournament where they finished 6th–and DC taking the win in early May this year at the Beach Brawl. Bear City made it 2-0 on the day, and 2-1 all-time against DC, with a last-jam 166-156 win.

D2KW: Berlin Halts Demolition City, 180-177

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON–In a closely contested meeting between Berlin and Demolition City, it became a game of power jams and power struggles as Berlin started slowly but went on an 81-5 run until the end of the first half to take the lead 100-59.
