Welcome, slightly belatedly, to the 2014/15 regular season!

D2C 1st: Jet City Crashes Santa Cruz, 195-194

MILWAUKEE, WI–What started out as a game of power jams ended up the tightest and most exciting game of the weekend. Jet City dominated in the first half, scoring most of their points on power jams alone despite Santa Cruz getting more lead jammer calls. The Boardwalk Bombshells went 15-0 in the first two jams but had clawed their way back from a 58 point deficit to within one point before the half. The teams got fast and loose in the second half, with more blocker penalties and fewer jammer penalties. Santa Cruz consistently had the lead within reach, but when the dust of the last jam settled, they lost by one point.

DES MOINES, IA–The final game of WFTDA’s first-ever Division 2 tournament saw the fifth-seeded Jet City challenging third-seed Blue Ridge for first place and the chance to compete for overall D2 winners at the Division 1 championships in November. Blue Ridge opened strong but quickly succumbed to penalty trouble, rarely fielding a full side and suffering frequent–well into the double digits over the course of the game–jammer penalties. That pattern made it Jet City’s game from midway through the first half and they ultimately took the win, 208-113. They’ll tackle next week’s winner in Milwaukee in November, while Blue Ridge will meet the runner-up at the same event.

DES MOINES, IA–The first semifinal was, appropriately, one of the highest-quality encounters so far. The intensity remained to the end despite Jet City holding a comfortable lead–and it was the Washington team that took the win 218-131.
