RICHMOND, VA–The Sunday opener at the second division one playoff was contested by two teams that would have had high hopes of improving their seeding coming in fighting to avoid a last-place finish. No Coast and Tampa came in seeded 6 and 7 respectively–and it was Tampa who regained some pride with a thoroughly convincing 283-133 upset win to take ninth place back to Florida.

RICHMOND, VA — In the second game of Saturday action, 5th seed Kansas City faced off against 7th seed Tampa in the consolation bracket. It was a heated fight to escape the 9th place game, with both teams obviously frustrated by the previous day’s results. After an extremely close battle with numerous lead changes, Kansas City managed to emerge victorious, 207-172.

RICHMOND, VA–In the second bout of the WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Richmond, Virginia, the seventh seed Tampa Tantrums (#29 WFTDA) took on the 10th seed Terminal City Rollergirls (#38 WFTDA) in the latter’s first WFTDA playoff appearance. The game followed an odd rhythm, as Terminal repeatedly opened up significant leads only to see Tampa rally and nearly close the gaps; nonetheless, Terminal City never trailed after the game’s first jam and took the tournament’s second upset in a row, winning 180-154.

Preview: Richmond WFTDA Division 1 Playoff

This weekend, Virginia sees the second installment of the WFTDA Division 1 playoffs in the road towards Championships and the Hydra. And while this grouping of 10 leagues doesn’t have as many travel miles behind them on the way to the tournament as last weekend’s, it doesn’t make the road travelled seem any less long, metaphorically-speaking, with many of the leagues experiencing key team additions or subtractions, and dramatic alterations in game play on the way to these end-of-WFTDA-season games.
